Governor Paul Cellucci Backs Jon Golnik
Former Governor to Chair Golnik Campaign Carlisle, MA— 3rd District Congressional Candidate Jon Golnik is proud to announce that former Governor Paul Cellucci will serve as Chairman of the Golnik for Congress Campaign, as Jon works to unseat tax and spender Niki Tsongas. Governor Cellucci served the Commonwealth from 1977 until 2001, as a State Representative, State Senator and for four years as Governor, before becoming Ambassador to Canada. In 2001, the libertarian Cato Institute gave him an ‘A’ and noted in its report that Governor Cellucci "earned the distinction of having the best record of reducing taxes and restraining spending growth" of any Governor in the country.
“I am honored and humbled by the support Governor Cellucci is giving me and his willingness to serve as Chair of my campaign,” Golnik said. “Governor Cellucci managed Massachusetts in a way similar to how I would represent this district—with an understanding that conservative fiscal policy expands job growth and is best for the people. I look forward to his advice and counsel as we work hard to get our message out.”
Jon is running to restore fiscal responsibility for the people of Massachusetts' 3rd District. Jobless rates in some communities in the 3rd top 18%, and Niki Tsongas’s only activity to expand job growth is to expand government—a policy that has failed miserably in the past two years.
“I have known Jon for several years now, and respect how hard he worked last time around. The votes may have come up short last time, but Jon succeeded in getting more votes than any other Republican in the District since 1992,” Governor Cellucci said. “Now, with his hard work and the foundation of support, I believe Jon can succeed in this endeavor and look forward to helping him in any way I can. Like Jon, I believe the way to grow jobs is not through higher taxes and the over-regulation that Congresswoman Tsongas has repeatedly supported. These policies only do more to harm businesses, making them unable to grow and hire. We need to secure the business climate so people can get back to work and I know Jon will fight hard for policies that will advance that goal.”
