GOLNIK LAUNCHES NEW WEB VIDEO

Calls on Tsongas to Host Town Hall on Health Care Before Casting Vote

For Immediate Release:
March 8, 2010

Carlisle, MA – 5th District Congressional Candidate Jon Golnik today launched a new web video in response to Congress and the Administration’s effort to fast-track the $2.5 Trillion health care legislation. “President Obama has claimed that there’s been enough discussion about health care and Niki Tsongas has been silent in response,” said Golnik. “We need to give the public the opportunity to review, discuss and express its opinions on this massive spending bill before a vote is cast.”

Congress is scheduled for “Spring District Work Period” in just a few weeks—March 29th through April 9, 2010. District Work Periods are scheduled periodically throughout the year to allow members of Congress to return home to work directly with their constituents. However, Washington is planning a vote on the legislation just before lawmakers return home. “It is unthinkable that Niki Tsongas, who granted just two town halls in all of 2009, would cast a vote on the most significant legislation of her tenure, without giving the people a chance to weigh in on it. We have had enough of a Congress who isn’t listening to us. Rep. Tsongas should refuse to vote until she returns to Massachusetts and she should agree to hold a series of Town Hall to give a voice to the people who are demanding one,” said Golnik. Golnik believes we need real health care reform to reduce costs to consumers and that this can be achieved without raising taxes, massive spending or interfering with the personal relationships between a doctor and patients.

Obama healthcare bill will not reduce costs or open access for MA families

OBAMA HEALTHCARE BILL WILL NOT REDUCE COSTS OR OPEN ACCESS FOR MA FAMILIES

For Immediate Release:
March 3, 2010

CARLISLE - Jon Golnik, candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District, released the following statement after President Obama called for an up-or-down vote on the healthcare bill in the next two weeks:

“This legislation could cost up to 2.5 trillion dollars over the next ten years and ultimately, will not reduce costs or open access to health care for most Massachusetts’s families. You do not save people money by spending it, you do not improve Medicare by cutting a half trillion from it. This is more than 2000 pages of bureaucracy and spending and Niki Tsongas must vote against it. President Obama says that the American people want this done and even set an arbitrary timeline to have it done in two weeks. This once again shows Washington is simply not listening to the people who have soundly rejected this plan and approach. We need to scrap this bill and start from scratch. Congresswoman Tsongas witnessed in her home state the reaction of the people to health care with our special election in January. If she is representing the interests of the people, not politics, she will heed their call and vote no. As a Congressman, I would not support any health care leg that did not focus on reduction of cost for individuals and businesses.”

Tsongas should call on Rangel to step down

TSONGAS SHOULD CALL ON RANGEL TO STEP DOWN
Jon Golnik, commented on Congresswoman Niki Tsongas' decision

For Immediate Release:
March 1, 2010

CARLISLE - Jon Golnik, candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District, commented on Congresswoman Niki Tsongas' decision to give the tainted $7,000 give to her campaign by ethically-challenged New York Democrat Rep. Charlie Rangel to charity after he was admonished by the House Ethics Committee: "

I think it is great that Niki Tsongas plans to give the Rangel money to charity. We have got to stop the process of Congress protecting its own, before the interests of the citizens. Now that Congresswoman Tsongas has pledged to return the money and acknowledged Rangel's misdeeds, she should now call for his removal as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. This admonishment by the House Ethics Committee only covers one of several pending investigations against Rangel. He has already admitted to a direct violation of the tax law which is written by the very Committee that he chairs. It is time to hold our elected officials accountable, and demand that they hold each other accountable as well."

Golnik comments on President Obama's State of the Union speech

JON GOLNIK COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S ‘STATE OF THE UNION’ SPEECH
Criticizes so-called “spending freeze” and healthcare takeover

For Immediate Release:
January 27, 2010

CARLISLE, MA - Jon Golnik, candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District, has issued a statement on tonight's remarks by President Obama from the State of the Union speech:

"President Obama told Americans that we will have a much needed spending freeze, but he fails to tell us that this so-called 'freeze' applies to only one-eight of the total budget. It is estimated that cumulative deficits over the next ten years will reach $9.3 trillion, so this 'freeze' will bring us to $9 trillion," said Jon Golnik.

Golnik continued, "The President spoke of the nationalization of our health care ignoring the important role that state's have with this matter. Massachusetts has already initiated it's own system. Granted that our system is not perfect, but nationalizing our health care with a 'one size fits all' program is not the right approach. Our health care system needs more competition to drive down costs, not more regulations and red-tape."

Golnik campaign exposes Niki Tsongas' "Worst Votes of 2009"

GOLNIK CAMPAIGN EXPOSES NIKI TSONGAS’ ‘WORST VOTES OF 2009’
Tsongas voted for failed stimulus, health care takeover, ACORN funding

For Immediate Release:
January 25, 2010

CARLISLE - The Jon Golnik for Congress campaign has launched a website documenting Congresswoman Niki Tsongas’ worst votes of 2009. Niki09.com lists the 9 worst votes, allowing web visitors to vote on the most objectionable vote.

“Niki Tsongas is representing the Pelosi congress and not the voter of the 5th Congressional district,” says Jon Golnik. “No one can accuse Niki Tsongas of being inconsistent, she has consistently voted for higher taxes and more government spending."

“She joined with Nancy Pelosi and the liberal leadership in the House to pass the massive government takeover of the health care system, the job-killing ‘cap-and-tax’ energy bill and the failed $700 billion stimulus bill,” Golnik continues. “In a startlingly scandalous vote, she joined with only seventy-four of her colleagues in voting against the defunding of the corrupt ACORN group. Thankfully 345 other colleagues voted to strip taxpayer funding. "
