Day in the life of the Campaign

By Jon Golnik, on Jun 10, 2010

The day started early as we planned to go down to Quincy to the Joe Malone event where Mayor Giuliani would speak.  Got up at 6 am with Tillie (Zeke was still sleeping) and had some breakfast.  Zeke didn't have school today but Tillie did (she wasn't happy about that).  Left the house at 6 and 128 south wasn't cooperating.  Didnt arrive in Quincy until 8:45. Still, it was worth the traffic as it was a great event!

JON GOLNIK TALKS IMMIGRATION REFORM
5th Congressional District Candidate Releases New Web Video

Carlisle, Ma – 5th District Congressional Candidate Jon Golnik today is launching the latest in his series of issue based web videos.  Illegal immigration has been in the spotlight recently in the wake of Arizona's controversial new law and last week's Massachusetts State Senate action to crack-down on state benefits for illegals and accountability to business owners who hire them.

"This is a country thats finds its strength in diversity and diversity is truly and American value," Jon states in the video. "But, today we face a problem with illegal immigration. Now it doesn't mean that we are anti-immigant...but illegal immigration is a problem."

The video continues: "It is one of the single most challenging issues we face as a country because it cuts across other challenging issues like health care, like education, like national security..."

Twitter is for listening

By Jon Golnik, on May 21, 2010

Are you on twitter?  I am using twitter as a campaign communications tool to better connect with you.  Twitter is not just a simple way to keep you updated, it’s also a great way for me to learn more about you and your ideas. A major component of this campaign is about listening.

Too often, politicians in DC do all the talking and this is part of the problem. Throughout this campaign, I will be meeting voters across the 5th Congressional District and I hope to meet you in person.  If you are currently on twitter, please follow me and let me know what is on your mind.

Even in liberal-leaning Mass., GOP eyes US House

BOSTON — Four months after Republican Scott Brown won the U.S. Senate seat held for half a century by the late Edward Kennedy, liberal-leaning Massachusetts is rife with Republican candidates hoping to flip even more Democratic seats into GOP hands.

....

Another closely watched race is in the state’s 5th Congressional District, where Niki Tsongas is running for her second full term after winning a special election in 2007 and running unopposed in 2008.

Four Republicans say they’ve collected the 2,000 signatures needed to get on the primary ballot, including Jon Golnick, a reseller of Boston College merchandise. The Carlisle father of two said he jumped into the race because Democrats like Tsongas have failed on the economy.

"We wasted 12 months on health care when we should have been focusing on creating private sector jobs," Golnick said.
