Trade your beach chair for a new Congressman

Trade your beach chair for a new Congressman

The office is open, the air conditioning is on and phones are calling. We haven’t officially opened the office yet, but the volunteers couldn’t wait to start making the phone calls that will defeat Niki Tsongas this November. It would be easy to spend the summer at the beach, but come November, we would be stuck with the same broken Congress and the same failed Congresswoman.

I challenge you to come to our office--heck, bring your own beach chair and we'll provide the Corona and lime--and use this summer to make a real difference. Volunteer for the movement that we are creating in the Fifth District; a movement to take back Congress and our nation. Click Here today to sign up to volunteer at our office, and someone will contact you soon.

We are having an official Open House at the campaign office in Westford next Wednesday, June 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. I invite you to come down, enjoy some refreshments, speak with like-minded people and most importantly, sign up to make phone calls.

If you missed it last week, the Lowell Sun ran my op/ed on illegal immigration. This is an important issue of the campaign and we must secure our borders. There are serious homeland security issues at stake in this fight, not to mention the billions of dollars that illegal immigrants cost US taxpayers. There are serious homeland security issues at stake in this fight, not to mention the billions of dollars that illegal immigrants cost US taxpayers.

We fix this problem by stopping the magnets, the biggest of which is employment. Employee verification and penalizing companies who ignore the law will go a long way towards stopping illegal aliens from finding and keeping jobs, the main reason they stay. The next magnet is to deny taxpayer-funded benefits.

Finally, Independence Day is fast approaching, and with it comes parades. I plan to march in at least two parades, and would love to have you join in the fun. We will have t-shirts and plenty of water. Please email travis@jongolnik.com to volunteer to march in the Chelmsford, Sudbury or Ayer parades.

Letter: Give Jon Golnik a chance to represent the 5th

Give Jon Golnik a chance to represent the 5th District

In a mere three months (September 14) our state primaries will occur, and seven weeks after that our general election (November 2).

Today there is a considerable disconnect between our elected representatives and us. Our representatives believe that somehow they know better than their constituents on every issue. Our legislators are ignoring us and there are few better illustrations of this than our current congresswoman, Niki Tsongas.

Niki has failed to listen to us, and it is time we replace her with someone who will. That is why I support the candidacy of Jon Golnik. I have been following Jon's campaign since he first announced in November of last year. He has spent the past several months traveling around the district meeting people and listening to their concerns. The 5th District would do well to send Jon to Washington to fulfill our wishes not and not the wishes of those above him.

Jon is a small businessman and approaches problems in a practical manner. He is an independent thinker who is not beholden to special interests. If you have an opportunity to meet Jon, you will likely hear him say the people he is loyal to are the citizens of the 5th District. Jon will listen to us on health care. He will work to stop the outrageous spending and provide some tax relief to individuals and small businesses. As a small businessman, Jon recognizes that over- taxation and over-regulation is strangling small business; he will work reduce taxes and over egulation so that employers can grow and hire; that's how we can bring jobs to Massachusetts and fix this economy.

These upcoming elections are the most important in a generation. It is time to end the confusion and take back our government with representation that will listen to us. Jon Golnik is the candidate to do that. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican or unenrolled voter, Jon Golnik will be a congressman we can all be proud of. I support Jon Golnik and I urge you to prepare early for the elections and get to know Jon. I believe if you do; you too will want him representing us in Congress.

Comments on President Obama's Gulf Oil Spill Speech

By Jon Golnik, on Jun 16, 2010

The Gulf Coast Oil Spill is truly a national disaster that will plague our shoreline and its economy for years to come.  I am glad to see the federal government is now engaged in the situation.  However, I would caution all of us, as Americans, not to allow this calamity to become fodder to advance a political agenda.

Undercurrents in the President’s speech alluded to the need for increased taxes through what we can only assume is the Cap and Trade energy tax—which would be an absolute job killer and be the largest tax increase in American history.

We need to address the capping of this oil well.  We need to address clean-up of the gulf coast, its wildlife and assisting the many people who will lose their jobs and shutter their businesses in its aftermath.  We need long term, practical plans for our future energy use.  What we do not need is to use the worst coastal disaster in this country’s history as a stepping-stone for the worst tax proposal in this country’s history.

This ecological disaster is bad enough for American workers. We do not need to make a bad situation worse by further taxing the American worker.  I hope whatever legislation Congress proposes in response is in the best interest of the people, not the interest of a partisan agenda.

Jumping Between the Rain Drops

By Jon Golnik, on Jun 12, 2010

An early morning yesterday,  as we headed down to Brockton to pick up some folding chairs and tables a small business owner was kind enough to lend to the campaign. Make no mistake, 128 South isnt any bargain even at 6 am.  We took 495 north back, though a little longer, at least we were moving.
